Importance of Surah Al-Qadr
Surah Al-Qadr emphasizes the great importance of Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), the blessed night on which the Holy Quran was first revealed. The surah begins by mentioning that the Quran was sent down on this blessed night, emphasizing that the Quran is indeed a revelation from Allah SWT, confirming its authenticity and divine origin. From this, believers understand that the guidance of the Quran plays a crucial role in shaping and determining human destiny.
Another important aspect mentioned is that the Quran was revealed all at once to the heart of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on the Night of Decree, while its verses were gradually revealed over 23 years during the life of the Prophet (SAW). This shows both the spiritual significance of the night and the wisdom in the gradual guidance given to humanity.
The surah further stresses the greatness of this night by stating that Laylatul Qadr is better than one thousand months. Worship performed on this night carries greater reward than worship performed for more than eighty-three years. This immense value encourages believers to dedicate themselves to prayer, remembrance of Allah, and seeking forgiveness.
On this blessed night, angels and the Ruh (Angel Jibreel AS) descend to the earth with the permission of Allah to carry out every decree. It is believed that during this night, matters related to the coming year are determined. Therefore, believers are encouraged to turn to Allah in prayer, present their hopes and plans, and seek His guidance and blessings.
The night remains peaceful and full of mercy until the break of dawn. Angels greet the believers with salam, bringing tranquility and blessings. Islamic tradition also reflects on the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), where the greeting of an angel brought a miraculous moment of peace that cooled the fire prepared for him. Similarly, the greetings of angels on this night symbolize divine mercy and protection for believers.
The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is not specifically fixed. This wisdom encourages Muslims to increase their worship during several nights, especially in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Just as Allah’s pleasure and anger are hidden so that people remain mindful of their actions, the hidden timing of this night motivates believers to avoid wrongdoing and continuously perform good deeds.
In summary, Surah Al-Qadr teaches Muslims about the greatness of the Quran, the extraordinary blessings of Laylatul Qadr, and the importance of sincere worship, repentance, and devotion to Allah.
