Georgia Ramadan Calendar 2027: Dates, Suhoor and Iftar Times

By Islamic Info Center Editorial Team · Published 20 September 2026 · 12 minute read

Quick answer: The Georgia Ramadan calendar 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 (1 Ramadan 1448 AH), with the first Tarawih on the evening of Sunday 7 February. Ramadan should end on 8 or 9 March, and Eid Al Fitr is expected on 9 or 10 March. In Atlanta, Iftar on day one is about 6:16 PM and Suhoor ends about 6:18 AM. All dates depend on moon sighting.

Ramadan 2027 arrives in late winter, which is good news for anyone fasting in Georgia. Days are shorter than in the summer Ramadans of recent years, and the whole month falls before daylight saving time begins. This guide covers the expected calendar, a full 30 day Atlanta timetable, how the start date is decided, the key nights, and a free PDF you can print for the fridge. It mainly covers Georgia in the United States. If you meant the country of Georgia, there is a short Tbilisi section further down.

Odd nights of the last ten (23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th)Evenings of 1, 3, 5 and 7 March

Remember that in the Islamic calendar the night comes before its day. The night of the 21st begins at Maghrib on the 20th, which is why the last ten nights start on the evening of 27 February. This is the most common planning mistake.

Why Ramadan Moves Every Year

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar, which follows the moon. A lunar year is about 354 days, roughly 10 or 11 days shorter than the solar year, so Ramadan arrives earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year. In the United States Ramadan 2026 began around 18 February, and Ramadan 2027 is expected about ten days earlier, on 8 February. It will keep moving earlier, reaching late January in 2028. Over about 33 years Ramadan travels through every season, which is why some years the fast is short and cool and others long and hot.

How Georgia Muslims Decide the Start Date

Muslim communities in the United States do not all use one method. Some follow a pre calculated astronomical calendar, such as the one published by the Fiqh Council of North America, which maps 1 Ramadan to 8 February 2027. Others wait for a local or regional crescent sighting, and some follow announcements from overseas.

The astronomical picture is helpful. The new moon is calculated to be born on Saturday 6 February 2027 at 15:56 UTC, so the crescent will be too young to see on that evening in Georgia. By Sunday evening it is about a day old, which is why 8 February is the widely expected first day of fasting. A community that relies on overseas sighting could start one day later, on Tuesday 9 February.

Tip: Follow your own masjid. Whatever date they announce is the one to use for you and your family, and the same goes for the end of Ramadan and Eid.

How these times were made: They are calculated estimates using ISNA angles (15 degrees for Fajr and Isha) for Atlanta on Eastern Standard Time. Fajr is rounded down and Maghrib rounded up by a minute, a common cautious practice. Your masjid may use a different method, so a difference of a few minutes is normal. You can cross check the sun timings with the NOAA Solar Calculator.

Other Georgia cities

Because the sun sets earlier as you move east, adjust the Atlanta times roughly as follows: Augusta about 10 minutes earlier, Savannah about 13 minutes earlier, and Columbus about 2 minutes later. Suburbs around Atlanta such as Marietta, Alpharetta and Lawrenceville are within a minute or two of the table.

Fasting Hours in Georgia in 2027

Fasting runs from Fajr to Maghrib. In Atlanta the first fast is close to 12 hours, and by the last days of Ramadan it grows to nearly 13 hours as the days lengthen. That is noticeably easier than a summer Ramadan. For a deeper look at the rules and benefits of the fast, read our guide to fasting in Islam.

Planning Your Ramadan in Georgia

  • Work and school: Ramadan is not a public holiday in the United States. Talk to your employer or school early about breaks for Maghrib, Jumuah and the last ten nights.
  • Tarawih: Many masjids in the Atlanta area hold Tarawih after Isha, with some completing a full Quran recitation across the month. Check timings with your masjid, since programmes differ.
  • Health: Those with medical conditions, and anyone travelling, ill, pregnant or nursing, may be excused from fasting. Speak with your doctor and a trusted scholar.
  • Zakat al Fitr: This charity is due before the Eid prayer, so pay it during the last days of Ramadan. See our guide to zakat.
  • Daylight saving time: It starts on Sunday 14 March 2027, after Eid Al Fitr, so no clock change affects the fast.

Suhoor and Iftar Tips for Georgia Families

The Prophet, peace be upon him, encouraged Suhoor, saying there is blessing in it, and encouraged hastening to break the fast once the sun has set. Both are reported in the collections of Bukhari and Muslim. Breaking the fast with dates and water is also a well known Sunnah.

  • Eat Suhoor late, not early. Finishing close to Fajr helps you stay full through the day. Slow energy foods such as oats, eggs, yogurt, whole grains and fruit work well.
  • Drink steadily between Iftar and bedtime. Winter air is dry and heated homes make it easy to underestimate how much water you lose.
  • Break the fast gently. Start with dates and water, pray Maghrib, then eat a balanced meal. Heavy fried food straight away often leaves people tired for Tarawih.
  • Go easy on caffeine. Cutting back a week or two before Ramadan reduces headaches during the first fasts.
  • Share the meal. Many masjids and community groups host shared Iftars, and feeding a fasting person is a highly rewarded act. Ask your masjid how to take part or contribute.

The Last Ten Nights and Laylat al Qadr

The last ten nights are the spiritual peak of Ramadan. The Quran describes Laylat al Qadr, the Night of Power, as better than a thousand months (Surah Al Qadr, 97:3). The Prophet, peace be upon him, advised seeking it in the odd nights of the last ten, and these are the nights listed in the key dates table: the evenings of 27 February, 1 March, 3 March, 5 March and 7 March. Its exact night is not known, so many Muslims give the whole last ten nights extra worship.

Some people observe Itikaf, staying in the masjid for worship. If Ramadan begins on 8 February, Itikaf normally starts before Maghrib on 27 February. Ask your masjid about registration and rules well in advance, because spaces and schedules vary. If you work, even one or two extra late nights of prayer, Quran and dua are worthwhile.

Eid Al Fitr 2027 in Georgia

Eid Al Fitr falls on 1 Shawwal. It is expected on Tuesday 9 March if Ramadan has 29 days, or Wednesday 10 March if it has 30. Both are weekdays, so ask about time off early. The Eid prayer is offered shortly after sunrise, and sunrise in Atlanta is around 6:55 AM in that week. Many masjids and community halls run more than one Eid prayer to handle the crowd, so check the times and where to park before the morning.

Pay Zakat al Fitr before the Eid prayer so that families in need can celebrate too. The amount per person is usually announced by your masjid, and paying it early in the last days of Ramadan is generally recommended. Daylight saving time begins four days after the earliest Eid date, on Sunday 14 March, so remember the clock change for your first regular week after Ramadan.
