Scholarly Rulings
The majority of scholars from the Hanafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools agree that voluntary Qurbani for the deceased is valid. This is based on the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ practice of sacrificing on behalf of his Ummah, which includes both the living and the dead.
Voluntary Reward
Most common. You pay for a sacrifice to gift the Isal-e-Sawab (reward) to a deceased parent or relative.
Wasiyyah (The Will)
If the deceased specifically requested Qurbani in their will, it becomes obligatory to fulfill it from their estate.
