Times are shown in London local time (GMT in winter and BST in summer). Fridays are marked with a green edge for Jumu‘ah. Calculated times may differ from local mosque timetables.

About Prayer Times in London

Muslims pray five times a day, and each prayer has a window set by the position of the sun. In London these windows change noticeably through the year. Days are short in December and long in June, so the gap between Fajr and Isha changes substantially across the seasons.

The Five Daily Prayers

  • Fajr begins at true dawn and ends at sunrise.
  • Dhuhr begins just after the sun passes its highest point at midday.
  • Asr begins in the afternoon. Its start differs between standard and Hanafi calculations.
  • Maghrib begins at sunset.
  • Isha begins once twilight has gone from the sky.

Fajr and Isha in the UK Summer

London sits at about 51.5° north. From late May to mid-July, twilight may not fully fade overnight, so angle-based rules can give very late Isha and very early Fajr times. Scholars and mosques handle this differently, including by using the middle of the night or the one-seventh-of-the-night rule. If you follow a local mosque’s timetable, use that for your own prayers.

Why Timetables Differ Between Mosques

Mosques in London may publish slightly different times because they use different calculation methods, different Asr rules, or add a few minutes of precaution. Use the selectors above to compare common methods. When in doubt, follow your local mosque.
